Chennai, 29TH January 2020:National Girl Child Day is a day ceremoniously dedicated to celebrate the girls of the Nation and to spread awareness on the importance of girl child and the inequalities faced by them in our society. CHILDLINE Vellorein collaboration with Hand in Hand India celebrated this day in the most significant manner.
Mrs. Nishanthini and Mrs. Sangeethofficers from the District Child protection office graced the event by speaking on the need to protect girl child and their rights. Key aspects like hygiene check on social media and the dos and don’ts were communicated to the participants present. The ABCDE for girls to carry as a mantra for their day to day protection was highlighted. Speaking on the importance of a healthy relationship between the child and their parents, Mr. David, Member of Child Welfare Committee threw some light and imparted his thoughts on the same.
Speaking on this activity, Dr. Anjaiah Pandiri, Executive Director, CHILDLINE INDIA FOUNDATION, says, “Women are an important pillar of our nation and we all should pledge to build a healthy environment for their growth and development. We hope the event creates a strong impact on the society to protect and encourage the girl child’.
CHILDLINE is present in 549+ districts and 120 railway stations, covering over 75% of the country. The long-term goal for CHILDLINE is to be present in every district and provide pan-India access and protection for children. CHILDLINE India Foundation is the nodal agency appointed by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India to initiate, implement and monitor CHILDLINE 1098 services across the country.

CHILDLINE (1098) is India’s first and only 24-hour, toll-free, emergency phone outreach service for children in need of care and protection, linking them to long-term services for rehabilitation. Any child or concerned adult who calls the 1098 helpline number is provided with emergency assistance. Based on the child’s need, he/she is referred to a relevant organization for crisis intervention and long-term rehabilitation and follow-up. CHILDLINE works in tandem with multiple stakeholders, including the government, civil society organizations, corporates and community, to ensure that child’s protection becomes everyone’s mandate.
