
The 4th G20 Education Working Group Meeting begins in Pune
Chennai-22.06.2023-Under India’s G20 Presidency, the fourth G20 Education Working Group is being convened from June 20 – 21 2023, in Pune. India’s Chief Coordinator of the G20 Presidency, Harsh Vardhan Shringla, and Secretary of Higher Education, Sanjay Murthy attended the inaugural session of the meeting. The meeting witnessed participation from 85 delegates from G-20 member countries, invited countries, and eminent organizations like OECD, UNESCO, and UNICEF.
The first day of the meeting began with the opening remarks by Secretary of Higher Education, Sanjay Murthy followed by the Chief Coordinator for India’s G20 Presidency, Harsh Vardhan Shringla’s opening remarks. During the opening session, Chief Coordinator for India’s G20 Presidency, Harsh Vardhan Shringla said, “The world is looking towards India as a promising solution to the problems arising at the global level.” He expressed that, “Today’s meeting would prove to be very helpful in deciding the future policy on this subject.” The draft G20 Education Ministers’ Declaration was also discussed during the meeting, emphasizing cooperation and innovations in the world of education.
Prior to the meeting, foreign delegates visited heritage sites in Pune. The guests were welcomed to the beats of Dhol Lajim played by the local folk artists at the historic Shaniwarwada in Pune. After Shaniwarwad foreign visitors visited Lal Mahal and Nana Wada. Wherein, the Foreign delegates learned about the childhood history of Chhatrapati Shivrai belonging to Lal Mahal as well as the historical significance of Nana Wada. A large number of students from different schools of Pune, the National Service Scheme, and NCC were also a part of this heritage visit. About 150 foreign tourists from 50 countries participated in the visit to these heritage sites.
Earlier on Monday, all foreign delegates were warmly welcomed at Savitribai Phule Pune University with colorful garlands and drum beats. On the sidelines of the meeting, a seminar on ‘Foundational Literacy and Numeracy’ in the context of Blended Learning was organized at the University. The seminar was attended by 50 delegates from 20 countries.
The Education Ministers Meeting will take place in Pune on June 22. Wherein senior representatives from UNICEF, OECD, and UNESCO as well as ministers from 15 countries will be attending the meeting.
The first Education Working Group meeting was held in Chennai, the second meeting in Amritsar, and the third Education Working Group meeting was held in Bhubaneswar.
