Wild Tamil Nadu* to be distributed through PVR Cinemas, Bringing the
State’s Rich Biodiversity to the Big Screen.

Documentary captures Tamil Nadu’s diverse landscapes, wildlife and ecological heritage
through a four-year filmmaking journey

Chennai, 4th September 2026: Wild Tamil Nadu, a wildlife documentary celebrating the extraordinary biodiversity of Tamil Nadu, is set to be distributed through PVR cinemas in numerous multiplex locations across the Country, on Monday, the 7th September 2026 taking audiences on an immersive journey through the State’s diverse landscapes and remarkable wildlife.

Produced as a CSR initiative by Sundram Fasteners Ltd., in collaboration with Nature inFocus and with the support of the Tamil Nadu Forest Department, the one-hour documentary brings together four years of footage from across Tamil Nadu. From mountains and forests to croplands, coastlines, coral reefs and arid landscapes, the film offers audiences a glimpse into the ecological richness and diversity of the State.

Drawing inspiration from the five classical landscapes of ancient Sangam literature – Kurinji (mountains), Mullai (forests), Marutham (croplands), Neithal (coasts) and Palai (arid zones) – Wild Tamil Nadu explores the wildlife that inhabits these varied ecosystems. The film features familiar species such as elephants and leopards alongside lesser-known inhabitants including the lion-tailed macaque, fireflies and the elusive Madras hedgehog.

The documentary brings together footage captured across the State by a dedicated team of cameramen from South India over a four-year period. Its soundtrack has been composed by three-time Grammy Award winner Ricky Kej, blending Carnatic traditions with orchestral arrangements, while renowned actor Arvind Swamy lends his voice as narrator.

Speaking about the film and its wider theatrical release, Ms. Arathi Krishna, Managing Director, Sundram Fasteners Ltd., said, “At Sundram Fasteners, we are proud to support initiatives that celebrate and safeguard our natural heritage. Wild Tamil Nadu captures the richness of Tamil Nadu’s wilderness and the remarkable biodiversity that exists across its landscapes. By taking the film to audiences through PVR cinemas, we hope to make these stories more accessible and inspire a deeper appreciation of the natural world and the need to protect it.”

Directed by Kalyan Varma, the documentary brings together years of on-ground filming to present Tamil Nadu’s natural heritage through a cinematic lens. The PVR release marks an important next step in the film’s journey, allowing audiences across multiple markets to experience the State’s wildlife and landscapes on the big screen.

With its release across cinemas, Wild Tamil Nadu invites audiences to discover the many ecological worlds that exist within Tamil Nadu – from its forests and mountains to its coastline and arid landscapes – and experience the State’s extraordinary natural heritage in a format designed for the scale and immersion of the cinema.
