
Master V Pranav, Class 11 of Velammal Vidyalaya, Mel Ayanambakkam has achieved the coveted title of Grandmaster at the age of 16, making him India’s 75th Grandmaster by winning the Limpedea Open in Baia Mare, Romania.
GM Pranav has won the state championship thrice and also won the bronze medal at the world rapid event in 2021. This tourney has secured him the third and final GM norm which attained him the Grandmaster title.
With this, he is the 27th Grandmaster from Tamil Nadu, and this achievement has spaced him in the list that includes the legendary Viswanathan Anand and teen sensations D Gukesh and R Praggnanandhaa.
Lately, out of the 27 Grandmasters from Tamilnadu, Velammal has achieved to bring out 16 among them.
