Government of Oman Utilises Yoga to Promote Country’s Tourism
21st June, Chennai: The Government of Oman collaborated with the Indian Embassy in Oman to produce an iconic video on the eve of International Day of Yoga (IDY). Titled ‘Soulful Yoga, Serene Oman’, in the video, yoga enthusiasts from several different countries can be seen doing beautiful yoga postures in the backdrop of stunning locations including mountains, beaches and sand dunes in and around the city of Muscat.
This video is in partnership with ‘Visit Oman’, a subsidiary of Oman’s Ministry of Tourism to produce this video. This makes it perhaps the first time anywhere in the world where a foreign government is making use of yoga to promote their own country. The video showcases the growing popularity and acceptance of Yoga as a health discipline all over the world.
Oman, a close strategic partner of India in the Gulf region, has witnessed immense growth in yoga’s popularity, with the Indian community in Oman and the Indian Embassy there playing a crucial role to make this happen.
Timed with the 75 years of India’s independence under ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’, the Embassy organised a never-before ‘Muscat Yog Mahotsav’ in 2022 with over 75 yoga events spread across 75 days in the run up to IDY 2022. This event saw the participation of thousands of people across all the major cities of Oman in the celebration of the power of yoga.
Embassy’s efforts have reached out to special segments of the Omani society. For example, in February 2023, a special Yoga session was organised for the Men and Women National Hockey teams of Oman, showcasing the potential and importance of yoga for the sports community. Similarly, a specially curated yoga session was organised for Children with special needs in March, bringing the healing power of Yoga for the well-being of these children.
The collaborative endeavour between the Indian Embassy and the Government of Oman seeks to create a profound visual representation of the union between the tranquillity of yoga and Oman’s picturesque landscapes.
