Sangaaram started when we wrote an essay about mercenary force named ‘Oru Kolai Rs.6000’. He came to us after reading it, he had a story about a teenage boy who killed someone, but does not know why he committed the crime. Usually writers will do a lot of research and implement it in their work, but @erasaravanan .Saravanan’s writing will have sensitive emotions. He has a great quality to learn from women around him.
A person in our Junior Vikatan office suggested the name Samhaaram after listening to all the bloodshed in the story, but it is an Hindi name. We discovered legendary Poet Bharathidasan has used the term in Tamil as ‘Sangaaram’. It feels like a story about two gangsters, but he has touched a lot of delicate topics, he has even spoken about our society’s biggest threat which is caste.
Usually when the story has a lot of violence, there will be equal amount of lust and love too. Era. Saravanan is a romance master, I had to tone down plenty of his writing about romance, I gave more cuts than what the censor board has given for Jana Nayagan and Parasakthi.
The spark of the subject is whenever there is an expression by the suppressed, it will be an outburst. I adored his work more after 40 episodes as he started becoming a poetic writer, but I conveyed him that it won’t suit our magazine and forced him to go back to the commercial space.
