Tamil Nadu Creates History at National Ice Hockey Championship; Team Meets Mrs. Latha Rajinikanth

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Ice Hockey Association (TNIAH) has scripted a historic chapter in the State’s sporting journey, with both its Under-15 Boys and Under-15 Girls teams winning Silver Medals at the 1st IHAI National Under-15 Ice Hockey Championship 2026, held in Uttarakhand from 15–18 June 2026.

Representing Tamil Nadu with exceptional determination, skill, and teamwork, the State contingent—comprising 20 Under-15 boys and 13 Under-15 girls—delivered an outstanding performance against some of the country’s strongest teams, securing silver medals in both categories and bringing national recognition to the State.

Following this landmark achievement, a delegation from the Tamil Nadu Ice Hockey Association, led by Mr. Santtosh N.M., President, along with Dr. Karunya, Secretary, Mr. Vimal Anand, Team Manager, and Mr. Prasana, Coach, had the privilege of meeting Latha Rajinikanth, Chairperson of Makkal Meddai, at her residence.

The delegation presented the National Championship trophies and silver medals while sharing the inspiring journey of ice hockey in Tamil Nadu. They highlighted the achievements of the State’s young athletes and the Association’s sustained efforts to promote and develop the sport across Tamil Nadu.

Mrs. Latha Rajinikanth warmly interacted with the players, congratulated each member of the team on their remarkable accomplishment, and applauded their dedication, discipline, and perseverance in excelling in a unique winter sport despite limited infrastructure and challenging conditions. She encouraged the young athletes to continue striving for excellence and expressed confidence that they would bring greater laurels to Tamil Nadu and India in future national and international competitions. She also conveyed her best wishes for the continued growth and development of ice hockey in the State.

The Ice Hockey Association of India congratulated the Tamil Nadu Ice Hockey Association on its commendable efforts in nurturing young talent and expanding the sport beyond its traditional regions. The Association acknowledged Tamil Nadu’s rapid progress in ice hockey and wished the players continued success at future national and international championships.

This historic achievement marks a significant milestone in the growth of ice hockey in Tamil Nadu and serves as an inspiration for young athletes to embrace emerging sports. It also reflects the State’s commitment to sporting excellence and its growing contribution to the development of ice hockey in India.
